However you get your news, here are a few stories that stood out in local, state, federal and international news.
DNC in Chicago
Last week, the Democratic National Convention took place in Chicago, IL. The Democratic party has selected Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as the party’s Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, respectively.
Speakers included:
The Mayor of Chicago
Current US Congressional members including Ohio’s Joyce Beatty
UAW President Shawn Fain
NBA Coach Steve Kerr
President Joe Biden
The former President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama, and
Former President and First Lady / Secretary of State Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Despite his misgivings, news anchor Chris Cuomo gave a refreshingly honest view of not only the DNC, but the Republican National Convention.
“You pay to play.”
At these party conventions:
Penthouse Suites cost $500,000
Club Level Suites cost $1M - $1.5M
Lower Level Suites cost $2.5M
2 Lower Level Suites cost $5M
As reported in an earlier edition of “Key Headlines,” Boeing launched astronauts Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita "Suni" Williams on a trip to the International Space Station (ISS) in early June. The trip was supposed to last 8 days.
Two months later, NASA, after originally denying any sort of Boeing ineptitude, has now declared that the two astronauts cannot return on the Boeing ship due to safety concerns. Instead, a SpaceX craft will deliver them home to Earth… in February 2025.
“Boeing received significantly more money than SpaceX to develop a space taxi. But while Starliner [Boeing's spacecraft] has yet to complete a crewed round-trip flight to the ISS, SpaceX has done a number of crewed missions for NASA.”
“Having a rival firm step in to complete a high-profile, milestone mission is an embarrassing development for aerospace giant Boeing.”
Robert F Kennedy Jr., son of Bobby Kennedy and former Democrat, has endorsed former President Donald Trump in this 2024 election.
RFK will still appear on the ballot in about 30 states, but stated he would drop out of '10 swing states where he could act as spoiler.’
Kennedy has stated he plans on actively campaigning for Trump in the months to come.
